What is Pipe Bursting?

Pipe bursting is the perfect technique to use for the treatment and replacement of broken pipelines such as water, sewer, gas, and power. This technique is used to burst clay, cast iron, concrete, and PVC pipe and is ideal for aging and older lines that are in heavily congested areas.

It is done using a winch that pulls a heavy-duty polyethylene pipe through the old line of equal or smaller size. The tool is pulled through is shattering the old line as it goes through, clearing the space for the replacement. As the area clears, the new pipe is being pulled through, replacing the former as it gets shattered. The only limitation to pipe bursting is that the pipe needs to be able to fracture, and the soil surrounding the pipe must be able to absorb the old fragments.

Benefits of Pipe Bursting

Trenchless pipe bursting has several positive benefits, including no damage to the landscaping, concrete, interior, or exterior structures. Before trenchless methods were invented, a plumber would have to dig a trench which would involve tearing up yards, driveways, and walkways to repair or replace a pipe. The most common type of pipe bursting we do is for trenchless sewer repairs.
